Don’t you love summer?!? I love basking in the joys of summertime and relishing the extended light hours that bless our lives. I find myself captivated by the beauty and abundance that the summer season brings. The warmth of the sun’s rays, the vibrant colors of nature, and the longer days filled with sunlight create an atmosphere of joy and renewal.
Studying Christ's Life
I am using “Come Follow Me” as my scripture study manual this year. It is amidst this backdrop of summer splendor that I’m delving into the profound teachings of the New Testament, dedicating over a month to exploring the final week of our Savior’s earthly life.
During this week’s study, I found myself hesitating to explore the events that unfolded on the last day of His life—judgments, cruelty, and ultimately, the crucifixion of our Lord and Savior, the radiant light of the world. The suffering and crucifixion of Jesus can be an emotionally challenging topic to explore.

However, as I contemplated on today’s significance as the summer solstice, an illuminating parallel came to mind. Many of us cherish the long summer days, basking in the abundance of light that graces our lives. The warmth and radiance of the sun captivate our hearts, elevating our spirits.
Conversely, we may feel down during prolonged periods of rain and gray skies. A bright, sunny day can uplift our moods and infuse us with happiness.

Celebrating the Light
Reflecting on this, I was reminded of my teenage years when Michael McLean’s musical, “Celebrating the Light,” captured the hearts of many. While I never had the chance to witness the musical firsthand, its soundtrack became a cherished companion, repeatedly playing on my tape player. Today, as we immerse ourselves in studying the death of Jesus Christ, I invite you to listen to “Celebrating the Light” and embrace the longest day of the year as an opportunity to commemorate our Savior, the light of the world.

Celebrate the Summer Solstice

On this special day, as we celebrate the summer solstice and delight in the longest daylight of the year, let us draw a profound parallel between the physical light that surrounds us and the spiritual light that Christ graciously bestows upon each of us. Today presents the perfect occasion to rejoice in His divine love and light and acknowledge the profound impact it has on our lives.
As we navigate our scripture study together, may the brilliance of the summer solstice remind us of the eternal light of Christ that shines within us all. Let us rejoice and embrace His light on this significant day.
