About Mission Purpose Choosing Wisdom

I’m Lori, the face behind Choosing Wisdom. I’m glad you’re here and hope you find something you love, something to influence the way you think, and something to help you on your journey of becoming the best version of you!

I believe wisdom goes beyond being smart or having a basic knowledge.  It is the culmination of experiences that help us evolve and develop. While each of our challenges may be unique, we all have the opportunity to choose how we will react, learn and grow from them.  My journey has taught me I don’t have all the answers, but I do have a voice to share what I’ve learned.

What we love determines what we seek,
What we seek determines what we think and do,
What we think and do determines who we are and who we will become.
Dieter F. Uchtdorf

Purpose and Mission

The purpose behind Choosing Wisdom is to uplift, inspire, and encourage others through the artful storytelling of aha moments that teach life lessons. It is my mission to offer support to women through a diverse collection of ideas for personal development, intentional living, and honest stories about life, love, and learning.

I am a wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.  As a lover of learning, I’m often found either devouring a book or writing.  I enjoy biking and traveling with my husband as well as spending time with our grandsons. Our adult kids are optional. ☺️ My husband and family are my real passion.  I feel blessed to have raised our four children with a supportive and loving friend.

About Me

I developed a love of writing when I was a young girl.  I used to make up stories and have my mom illustrate them for my class to read. In my mind there always seemed to be a narrative going on and words were always reframing themselves to make stronger sentences, or to clarify my point.

When I left for college I was torn between majors and switched at such a regular frequency that graduation continued to move further into the distance.  I experimented with a variety of interests and spent a semester studying abroad in Israel. After I met and married my husband the completion of my degree was put on the back burner as I began working to help put him through school.

Family Life

Becoming a mother was my second greatest interest.  Two years after we were married we welcomed our son into our home.  Life started to speed along at an increasingly quick pace.  We moved, started a new job, dealt with health issues and infertility, moved, moved again, and finally, our family started to grow again.

I loved my time at home raising our children and continued to put off ideas of finishing my degree or pursuing any kind of writing career.  As the kids started to approach high school graduation I decided it was time to set an example and returned to college to finish my schooling.

As luck would have it I was able to combine all of my passions into one degree — English with an emphasis in Family Studies and Communications. Returning to school was a monumental experience for me. The lessons I learned and the confidence I gained would have been lost had I completed my degree years earlier.

When our family slowly started leaving our nest, I ventured into the world of working outside of our home. For three years I was an executive assistant for an insurance brokerage firm.  I loved my time there, but soon felt drawn back to the life of a writer — back to my roots.

In 2016, Choosing Wisdom began as a vehicle to follow my dream of writing and has evolved into a means of sharing my ah-ha moments. I glad you’re here to share the journey.
